Take the Challenge
Your challenge is to locate existing Kirkintilloch Foundry items, take current photographs of each and its setting.
1. You might find items in your travels near or far. Take a note of each exact location; street name or point and any close landmarks!
If you are able use a digital pin such as Google Streetview or What3 Words then this works really well.
2. Check our MyMap for likely-finds. Our Easter Eggs give exact locations and useful information - from online research and other sources.
3. Check identification - nameplate or marker as evidence of its origin -from a Kirkintilloch Foundry.
e.g. telephone kiosks have the maker's plate at the bottom of the rear & sometimes has an 'LF' included in a code above the door.
Bandstands often have the name badge somewhere on it - look high and low.
4. If you are happy to - include people in the photos - the human aspect is much more fun! Especially with fun poses.
5. Post in any of the ways described below. You will be credited with the find or be added if it was previously-found.

Tips
- Take several photos from different views - up close and faraway, including as much of the setting as possible. Then choose the best few later.
- Don't get run down or fall into ditches! Safety first, always!
- Don't worry about looking silly as you hover over a drain or sit on your hunkers behind a kiosk, trying to read the nameplate - because you do look silly, so there's no point in worrying about it!
- Recruit others, then you'll not be alone with your strange addiction. Print the business cards! It's easier than trying to explain to people you don't know so well. You'll know to do this when they go silent with a look of bemusement as you try to explain.
- Research a little. EDLC have provided us with an interesting catalogue of many items the Lion Foundry made, with some of their destinations - a kind of a 'cheat-sheet'! It might point you in the right direction, but remember - many items may now be replaced or removed after neglect.
- Make it a family game! Kids love it and will do the hard work for you. Teenagers have also been known to be hilarious!
- Don't be too down-hearted if a kiosk you 'discovered' was made elsewhere. It can happen a lot. Carron Works from Falkirk, Stirlingshire is a regular find.
- Most of all ENJOY and SPREAD THE WORD!
